Paul English

Paul English is well-known to Texas audiences as an outstanding jazz pianist who has performed and recorded with such greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Arnett Cobb, David Liebman, Fathead Newman, Will Kennedy and John Patitucci. Alumni of the high-spirited Paul English Group of the 1980s include Kirk Whalum, Dwight Sills, Tony Campise, Herman Matthews and Hal Robinson.

A prolific and versatile composer, Paul has written music for symphony and chamber orchestras, as well as jazz and theater art groups, film and television. He has collaborated with poets, dancers, photographers, playwrights, painters and film makers, and he has created music for the literary works of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Tennessee Williams, Pablo Neruda and William Bolitho Ryall, among others. Paul's catalog also includes a large number of jazz and popular songs, scores for two musicals, and a complete library for his performing group, PICO.

As a studio musician, Mr. English has appeared on over 350 records with artists in nearly every popular genre: jazz, country, pop, blues, rhythm & blues, rock, new age, Latino, Tejano and various ethnic and eclectic styles. In addition to this, he has produced a number of CDs and soundtracks, including several for classical artists, and he has composed and produced music for film, video and for radio/TV advertising.

Paul English will be collaborating with sultry jazz vocalist Tianna Hall for the Houston Hearts Haiti project.
